Event-Related Committees

Fall Festival

  • Coordinate sponsors, vendors and craft fair participants. Set up and run games and activities. Coordinate ticket/bracelet sales and prizes. Promote event. Set up and clean up event areas.

Class Pictures

  • Work with the photographer and teachers to schedule class times. Send home announcements and order forms beforehand. Assist with traffic flow during picture-taking. Send home photo packets and follow up about orders.

Book Fair

Field Day

  • Help Coach to plan and organize. Order ribbons. Stock and sell healthy concessions. Set up game and contest areas the morning of the event, and help facilitate. Clean up.

Earning for Learning

  • Box Tops for Education: Design/print collection sheet, distribute to teachers, count labels and package for submission
  • Georgia Natural Gas True Blue School Program: Remind people who are existing or new customers to sign up and designate our school in order to receive donations each month

Teacher Appreciation

  • Coordinate snacks for monthly staff meetings. Secure donations for prizes/ treats for teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. Organize and host a breakfast and a luncheon. Create and hang banners. Generate excitement with theme days, contests, etc.

Business Liaisons

  • Engage with local businesses, neighborhood organizations and civic groups to strengthen our network, represent our school in the planning / decision-making for community events and development projects, and foster a shared vision with our neighbors for the future of our school. Attend neighborhood and business alliance meetings and report back to the PTA Board.  Help plan and advertise APS Spirit Nights at local businesses (e.g. Galla’s, Elwood’s, Canyon Burger). Help other committees garner business support (e.g. Fall Festival, Teacher Appreciation Week). Coordinate programs with Kroger, Publix, Box Tops, Georgia Natural Gas, etc.

Cultural Arts

  • Schedule cultural events and performances for the student body. Support art teacher on projects and programs. Coordinate school participation in Brookhaven Arts Festival. Support other arts-related activities agreed on by committee and faculty, such as silent auction, student performances, and family arts and crafts night.

Going Green

  • Coordinate recycling bin delivery/pickup. Help with projects in Outdoor Classroom (e.g. water conservation, composting, bird/butterfly attraction, native planting).  Educate students and parents about environmental issues.

Latin American Engagement

  • Provide translation services for flyers, monthly newsletter, web site, and other communication vehicles as needed. Be a welcoming presence to Spanish speakers at PTA events and school functions, and translate as needed. Promote and increase PTA membership of Latino families and be a resource for their questions or concerns.

Legislative & Advocacy

  • Stay current with state and national PTA legislative watches and communicate issues to APS membership. Recruit and mobilize additional volunteers for advocacy efforts (e.g. proposal to cut resources from the budget).
